Heather Pidcoke MD, MSCI, PhD

Chief Medical Research Officer, Colorado State University – Fort Collins, CO

Dr. Pidcoke currently serves as Colorado State University (CSU)’s Chief Medical Research Officer and works in the Office of the Vice President for Research. In that role, she guided key initiatives during the COVID 19 pandemic which resulted in wastewater surveillance, saliva screening of up to 25,000 individuals per week, and rapid response to data and data modeling. She is also a champion of integrated approaches to clinical research, including use of comparative medicine to accelerate clinical development programs. Dr. Pidcoke has an appointment as joint faculty in the Department of Clinical Sciences within CSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, she serves as academic editor for PLOS ONE, and is a reviewer and chair for Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs. Her translational research interests include trauma critical care and novel transfusion products aimed at improving the resuscitation of massively bleeding patients. Dr. Pidcoke is a subject matter expert in the field of remote damage control resuscitation and the use of blood products and biologics in austere environments. Dr. Pidcoke has received numerous awards, including from the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma, the UTHSCSA Guarino Award, a U.S. Army Commander’s Award for Civilian Service in recognition of her contributions in advancing medical research for military personnel, and in 2016, Dr. Pidcoke was honored with the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers from the United States White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, presented by President Barack Obama.
