Brett Janis is a specialist in the field of anhydrobiosis, or life without water. His research focuses on the ability of some plants and animals to survive in extraordinary environments by shedding their water and entering a state of suspended animation that is reversed upon rehydration. Brett’s work led to the development of a method to confer this remarkable phenotype onto human red blood cells as well as nucleated cells. Brett now serves as the Chief Executive Officer of DesiCorp, Inc to drive the clinical development of freeze-dried red blood cells for transfusion.
