Franck Zal PhD

CEO, Hemarina

Co-founder, Scientific Director and CEO of HEMARINA, Dr. Franck Zal has built his scientific reputation on his expertise in the field of marine invertebrate respiratory pigments. Dr. Zal founded HEMARINA in 2007 after 15 years of fundamental research at the CNRS. He is the author of 63 international patents, more than 130 publications and has given over 100 presentations at scientific conferences. He is currently President of Biotech Santé Bretagne, a member of the Supervisory Board of Inserm Transfert and Vice-President Regenerative medicine of Atlanpôle Biothérapies board. Franck holds a PhD in Oceanography (Pierre-et-Marie Curie University, Sorbonne University) completed by three years of post-doctoral studies at the University of Santa Barbara in California (UCSB) and then at the University of Antwerp in Belgium. He received also an Executive MBA (2014, Rennes School of Business). He receives several honors and awards, such as the Galien Award 2023 for HEMO2life® medical device, the Bronze medal of CNRS (section 30 of life science); he is also Appointed « Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite Maritime », is Laureate of the FAB Award for the SME of the year 2016, FACCNE, French American Chamber of Commerce in New England and many other awards.
