Jillian Richter

Associate Professor of Surgery, University of Alabama at Birmingham

Dr. Jillian Richter is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery at UAB. She is a biomedical engineer by training, and she received her bachelor and masters degrees from North Carolina State University. For her doctoral work, Dr. Richter attended Wake Forest University and completed her research training at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine. She then trained as an NIH T32 Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Cincinnati within the Surgical Research division, and she received her faculty appointment in Surgery at UAB in 2016. Her research program is focused on studying mechanisms that underly host responses to traumatic injury, hemorrhagic shock and fluid resuscitation with a special emphasis on the critical role of the vascular endothelium in regulating adverse outcomes after injury and during critical illness. Dr. Richter’s research is supported by funding from the NIH and Department of Defense.
