John Weisel PhD
Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology, Univ of Pennsylvania
John Weisel’s research area is the biomechanics of thrombosis and hemostasis, with the primary focus on molecular and cellular mechanisms of fibrin polymerization, fibrinolysis, platelet aggregation and clot contraction, and the clinical implications, including bleeding, thrombosis and embolization. Some unique methodology has been developed to carry out this research. His group has characterized the structure and mechanical properties of hemostatic clots and thrombi and mechanisms of their formation. The roles of red blood cells in hemostasis and thrombosis are another focus of research.
