William Light PhD

VirTech Bio, Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Light has over 30 years of industry experience in oxygen therapeutics including Biopure Corporation, OPK Biotech, and now VirTech Bio. While his primary focus has been in Discovery and Development, include drug and process, his broad expertise has always included nonclinical, regulatory and manufacturing support including direct interactions with the FDA. He has been successful in bringing in over $8 million in DOD grants for his trauma related work and was one of the early pioneers in the use of HBOCs in organ preservation for transplantation. He holds over a dozen patents in the field.

Dr. Light received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Art in Chemistry from Washington & Lee University and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Rice University.

At the 19th International Symposium on Blood Substitutes, Dr. Light will present from his broad experience on the different challenges for HBOCs in in vivo and ex vivo applications.
